This is a different use of the notation.
The [-1] means "exponent -1.
x [-1] = x ^ (-1) is 1 / x, which is the inverse of x (x) for the number.
sin [-1] (x) is the inverse of 1/sin sin (x), but not x.
It is as if "the angle whose sin is x" is defined.
Another name for this function, which circumvents the problem of notation is "asin (x) '(and similarly for the other trigonometric functions cos arccos, arctan Tan /, etc..)
